LDR: June & July 2021 Round Up

It has been another busy period for the team at Low Dempsey Racing, with three BRSCC National Championship weekends over the past two months.

The team kicked off June with a trip to Knockhill, Scotland. After a tough qualifying session, the drivers started Race 1 in P7 (Max Esterson), P8 (Colin Queen) and P14 (Andre Lafond). Colin unfortunately ended up in the gravel trap during the race which knocked him down a few places early on, but he still managed to secure a P11 finish, whilst Andre and Max both gained positions, with Andre finishing P13 and Max grabbing an impressive P3 podium spot! Race 2 on the Sunday also brought some more success for Max who took another P3 finish! Andre also gained some places and found himself finishing in P11, whilst Colin had another unlucky run leading to a DNF due to a mechanical issue. After the weekend Colin said, ‘Reflecting on my performance and mindset, I was 100% physically ready and mentally prepared with a lot of fire in my belly. Yes, I made some mistakes, which were addressed and I pushed myself hard. I’m adapting well to the car and feel really good about my growing capabilities.’

Just two weeks later the team headed to local circuit, Silverstone, for some incredibly wet racing! Race 1 yielded a brilliant result for Max who took P1! Whilst Colin and Andre also impressed securing P9 and P11 respectively.

Unfortunately for Max however he did incur a 5 place penalty following an incident in Race 1 which meant that he started Race 2 in P6. However, he did manage to work his way back up to P2 but sadly after a spin he lost a few places and finished P6. Colin was solid throughout the race working his way up to P7, whilst Andre also showcased some excellent driving finishing in P11. With a reverse grid for Race 3, Colin begin the race on pole, with Max in P2 and Andre P11. It was a tense and tight race but Max fought off the competition to grab another P1, whilst Andre took P9! Unfortunately it was another bit of bad luck for Colin, who finished P11 after sustaining some damage and losing his nose cone. Andre commented after the weekend, ‘All things considered, it was a good race weekend, with lots learned and lots of progress made! I can’t wait for the next one!’

It was then onto beautiful Anglesey in July for rounds 9,10 and 11 of the series. Qualifying went well for the team on the Saturday with Max grabbing P1, Colin securing P4 and Andre taking P11, which set the boys up for some great results in Race 1! Max secured a fantastic P2 finish, Andre took a brilliant P7 and Colin grabbed an impressive P11 after a spin early on and finding himself in last place! Race 2 was equally as thrilling with Max finishing in P2, Colin P6 and Andre P10! The third race of the weekend involved a partially reversed grid which meant that Colin started in P2, Max P6 and Andre P10. Race 3 saw Max grab another fantastic P2 finish, Colin took P6 after a 10 second penalty unfortunately knocked him down from P4 and Andre secured himself an awesome P9 finish too! After the weekend, Max stated ‘Despite not winning, I'm very happy with my performance this weekend as I collected some valuable points for the championship fight with pole, three second places, and two fastest laps – each of which pay extra points.’
