May has been an action packed month for Low Dempsey Racing. The National Championship kicked off on Saturday 8th May at Donington with rain and wind aplenty! In the first race of the weekend, on a hugely competitive grid amongst Formula Ford veterans such as Joey Foster, Rory Smith and Chris Middlehurst, Max Esterson secured P2 while Colin Queen took P12. In Race 2, Max again secured a podium place with P3 and Colin fought hard and efficiently to finish in an impressive P8. In Race 3, the top 8 from Race 2 were reversed, meaning that Colin Queen started on pole and Max Esterson started P6. A fast race in the dry saw Max take P4 and Colin take P5. Following the weekend Max Esterson said, “All things considered, it was a great first weekend and I collected some solid championship points. The pace to win is there - seemingly in rain or shine. I just need to iron out a few of the small errors, especially early on in the races against some super experienced Formula Ford drivers who are ready to pounce at any second.”

Six days later the team headed to Silverstone for a ‘Champion of’ race weekend. LDR kicked off the weekend with some testing, followed by qualifying where Max secured P5 and Colin P7. A great start! In Race 1, amongst another competitive grid with the likes of Alex Walker and Ollie White , Max Esterson took P3 and Colin Queen P9.  With the weather being slightly unpredictable during the weekend, it was fantastic when, in Race 2, Max stormed to P1 and Colin P8. Max Esterson’s performance also ensured he was the winner of the Jim Walsh Trophy.

Late May also saw the arrival of LDR’s final driver, Andre Lafond. Since Andre’s arrival he has completed some testing at Donington in preparation for the second round of the National Championship at Knockhill this coming weekend.

Later this week, Colin Queen will be giving us a run down ahead of our trip to Scotland over on the blog!
